Well, I'm purchasing a house with built-in ceiling speakers and would like to know if there's a receiver that can handle all the speakers. I really do not know much about these kind of things. All I know is that there are 2 front and 2 rear speakers in the family room. A pair of speakers in each of the 4 bedrooms, a pair in the living room, and a pair of in the backyard patio. All the speaker wires go to 1 central area of the family room and it looks like they're labeled as well.

You're going to need a reciever for the family and some sort of home audio amp/distribution system for all the rooms. A relatively cheap system are the NuVo systems from Parts Express.

MAKE SURE they have a CAT5 cable with a box/cover in each room for volume control for each room (except the family room)

Make sure they are not constant voltage speakers. That type of speakers requires a special amplifier. I would be surprised if your speakers used that sort of setup though.

There are a few options I guess, but I don't know how your house is wired.

This article explains some options -
