I'm considering replacing my Infocus 4805 with a new projector in hopes of getting a shaper/brighter picture. I need to keep the price under $1,000.00 & am considering these 2 units:

1. ViewSonic PJD5122 SVGA DLP Projector -120Hz/3D Ready, 2500 Lumens, 3000:1 DCR

that I can get at Amazon for $363.00 http://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-PJD5...1737079&sr=1-1 ..but it only has VGA inputs & I'm using Component cables. (I'd have to tear apart my whole system to switch to HDMI anyway)

Edit: I just read the owner's manual & a simple/cheap cable will work to connect it.

2. Optoma HD20 High Definition 1080p DLP Home Theater Projector

This has component ins & is $899.9 at Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Optoma-HD20-De...1736782&sr=1-4

I will hardly ever being using my blueray player with it so I don't think I'd get much use out of the 1080 resolution.

My questions are:

1. Will I notice a huge difference from my old Infocus 4805 with either of these?

2. Is the Optoma (at twice the price) gonna be worth the difference over the Viewsonic?

Thanks for any replies.

From a standpoint of resolution...Bluray doesn't necessarily mean you need it and vice versa. The real question is what size image are you projecting, and at what distance are you sitting....

The screen is 110" pull down & we sit about 10' in front of it. (it's in a basement family room so it's pretty dark)

Thanks for your help Jason. I just measured & we're actually sitting 14.5' in front of the screen. Doesn't seem to close to us.

Tolerance depends on what you're coming from as well. If you're coming from less than 30", then anything will look spectacular
