Why not buy it from eco$t, 1K+ off list & no tax?

Factor in $300 for shipping and $400 for an extended warranty to replace the void Sony one, and suddenly not such a hot deal, huh? Oh, and it may not be in stock if youd decline the matching stand and monster cables...
Shipping $143, they didn't ask for any extras when I added it to the cart. The site says it is covered by a manufacturer's warranty. I would probably spend 400 for extended warranty any way. I will call in the morning to check details

Thanks
bill, check out resellerratings.com for info on ecost and their sales practices. You'll likely be informed that the shipping price on the website is an "estimate". You'll be getting a phone call Monday telling you that if you buy cables, a stand, and a warranty, the item is in stock. If you decline those, suddenly it may no longer be available.

You can check Sony's website for their authorized internet resellers, and none of the ecost/pcmall/macmall sites are listed. They're all the same operation, just different web store fronts for the same company. This means Sony will NOT honor the warranty, so the extended service plan is a must.

Good luck, regardless. Just trying to pass on some info that I've learned in the process.... :)
I wouldn't discount the warranty just because eCost isn't listed on the Sony site. The retailer I bought my 40XBR800 from last year isn't listed either...but Sony confirmed that they were indeed an authorized retailer and I even used the warranty for a complete replacement with no questions asked. I've never ordered any big ticket items (>$1000) from eCost, but I've always had great service on the smaller stuff I have purchased. I'd follow up with Sony and eCost before ditching the idea.

Bought it, 500 less than list including sony 1 year warranty, shipped and 4 year extended warranty that includes bulbs. Best deal out there.
Rock on! Did you confirm the warranty status with Sony?

Does anyone know of any reputable online retailers that sell the Sony LCD projections?
