Can anybody tell how much this splitter amplifies?

Don't even think about using that amp for cable TV. Massive source of ingress and noise. Other specs are probably through the floor, too.
am i better off using a splitter without boost?

Totally depends on the signal strength. Try it first without an amp.

I'm not saying don't use an amp -- just not one like that. More problems than you would want to deal with. If you do get an amp, make sure it has specs similar to these: http://www.cencom94.com/gpage4.html
thanks, I'll try first without!
Yes avoid those old type amplifiers for cable TV. They are very noisy and just make signals worse.

Try a clean passive quality spitter first with good cables and connectors.

If you need more signal, buy a high quality low noise bi-directional cable amplifier (some models have internal splitter for 2,4,or 8 outputs) for digital cable. Available on EBAY for great low prices, look for the Electroline models.
