I've been looking around for some Component Cables to connect a Vizio TV to a DVD player. I checked online and found these cables on Amazon for $3,99. Has anyone tried them? They get good reviews, but I'm just unsure. What do the AV specialists on here think?

I have used them for replacement power supply cables & they were good quality & speedy delivery. I get most of my stuff from Monoprice tho, might want to give them a look also.

I thought that Component Cables carry sound too? I'm using them on a different TV, and I don't have audio cables setup. I don't think I need separate audio cables.

The three component cables carry video signals only. You would need two additional cables to carry audio.

Yes since it was only 3 wires you need to have the 5 wire since it includes the audiio cables.

I suspect that your other component connection is from a combined DVD player sound unit so you only need to send video to the TV because the sound was coming from the speakers connected to the player.

OR

You were using a 3 wire connection using composite video(yellow) and audio(red and white) and not component video( Red, Green, and Blue)

It is not a 5 color Composite cable it is a 5 color Component Cable(3 video 2 audio). There is not difference between the resolution quality/detail between component and HDMI. Some user's with digital technology TVs may notice a very slight degradation of color quality between the two. Composite( 1 video, 2 audio), on the the other hand, is all SD poorer quality video cotent.

NO! I just checked and the Cables I'm using are Component Video Cables.

I checked Cables on Demand Component Cables. There prices are better than Retail Stores, but not as good as Monoprice.
