Called Directv as a new customer

367 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  stickyfingers
Well after reading the thread on directv hdtv offer to existing customers and the deals that some got. I emailed them in the feedback section on their webpage asking if there is any specials to new subsribers for hdtv. What I got back was a form letter saying to call them or visit BB to buy the hardware. I called them today with the number they gave me (1-800-238-7177). I asked the salesperson about Hdtv and he said:

1. I had to signup for the standard package first.

2. Then I could call for the 399.00 special for HDTV.

3. No Deals

I told him about the $99.00 deal That existing customers where getting, he put me on hold for several minutes and came back there is no deals for HDTV. He said he never heard of the 99.00 deal. I told him I know of two friends of mine that did get a deal from them. He told me I could go and buy the stuff at CC or BB and activate it on the website. I thanked Him then hung up. What a disappointment that was. Has anyone been able to get a deal from them as a new customer and if so would you share your experiences so we can be educated on what to say.

Thanks, Mitch

The best deal DIRECTV will offer to new subscribers who want to activate new service is $399.99 plus $24.99 shipping plus tax. You could do better with an on-line dealer.

The $99.99 plus $24.99 shipping plus tax is for customers in good standing with at lease 2 yrs. of service and who agree to at least 1 more year with the $10.99/mo. HD package. Customer with 1 yr. of service are offered the HD upgrade for $199.99. The tax they charge is on the full value of $500.00.

Moral of the story, call a good on-line dealer for the best new subscriber HD package.

Yes, but only marginally. The best I've seen (for an older HD receiver) was ~$350ish. I started a thread about "When will D* be competive for HD equipment (for new subs)" about just this situation...sorta fizzled.
