For those interested, I've finished a beta release of the client/server version of CallerID Sentry. You can download the latest version from http://home.houston.rr.com/jeffkohn/...erIDSentry.zip . I've also updated my website to add a page for CallerID Sentry, although for the time being it basically restates the contents of the readme. Eventually I'll try to get some more documentation up. See my sig for the website url.

As always, any feedback/comments/bug-reports welcome, although this week is going to be very busy for me so I may not be able to immediately address issues that come up.

Now can anyone recommend a cheap external modem which will work with your program?

If you have two phone lines and two modems, can CallerID Sentry monitor them both? If so, is there a way to identify which line the call is on?

I don't have caller-id currently, but this program is really making me consider getting it!

Maybe there are cheaper ones, but for about $60 you can get a Jaton Explorer V.90 modem. Does fax, voice, and caller ID.

Thanks Jeff,

I can't wait to give this new version a try...

Things I noticed with the last version I was running:

- Hipix wouldn't operate with CallerIDSentry running, though I am using the same serial port for both, I just switch cables (so it could be me).

The program doesn't currently support multiple phonelines/modems. I suppose that could be implemented in a future release, but there are no immediate plans to do so. You could do this by running multiple instances (1 for each modem), but since both instances would share the same registry settings they would step on each other's toes and have to be reconfigured every time you started them.

I suppose I could add a command-line switch to specify the registry key, since that would make running two instances easier and would be less work than adding support for multiple modems to the program. I'll look into doing this for the next release.

As for differentiating between two lines, this would be easy if running multiple instances, because you could configure the OSD to use different font colors and/or screen positions.

Brian,

Since CallerID Sentry talks directly to the modem, it has to open the COM port. This means that when HiPix starts up, it won't be able to open the port; Windows doesn't know that you switched cables.

The only thing you can do is right-click on the CallerID Sentry tray icon and select the Disable Caller-ID command, which will cause it to close the port. Then HiPix should work. If you're using Girder, it shouldn't be hard to set up a macro to do this automatically, since I've created a Girder GXR for controlling CallerID Sentry.

Jeff,

It would be great if you could do this. I also have 2 lines and having CallerID Sentry capable of monitoring both would be great!

Thanks again for the wonderful work!

Would it be possible to make the OSD appear each, let's say 200ms when there is a call ?

What I mean is that if there are other OSD's like closed caption, subtiles etc, the CallerID OSD will disappear.

In short: show OSD each 200ms for X seconds, instead of just show for X seconds.

Well, I felt like taking a break from my other work tonight, so I went ahead and did the update. Version 0.8 now supports named configurations, so you can run multiple instances on the same machine. Just pass the configuration name on the command-line.

Keep in mind, though, if you want to monitor multiple phone lines you need multiple modems.

Anyone know if CallerID Sentry will work with an internal modem? I ran across this one for only $18 shipped, which is hard to resist. The chipset looks like it supports caller ID.

CallerID Sentry should work just fine with an internal modem as long as it supports caller-id. I've been using it with a internal USR 33.6 modem without problems.

BTW I never heard back from anybody about whether the network support was working for them. If anyone has tried it let me know. I haven't had time to work on this project lately, so the TAPI support is still a ways off.

2 dumb questions...

How do I know if my modem supports caller ID? Is there a Hayes command I can issue to find out?

Is Caller ID different between countries (I live in Australia)?

The utility won't work for me so these are 2 possibilities.
