Looks good... I'm shopping for a 2-channel amp & pre right now. I'm gonna see what I can find out about the 840W & 840E... Thanks for posting this, as I was unaware of either

Im not sure how much these are going for. I recently got the 840a integrated, and at the time there were at least a couple of places selling for less than $1k shipped. Fair deals, IMO.

Im sure there must be some improvement with the newer line, and there is definitely added flexibility with separates. Just FYI, if you want some bang for the buck! (I can't even remember if there was any worthy competition I found at the price point...)

It seems the 840W is going for ~$2,000 retail, and the 840E ~$1,600. It's well w/in my budget, so now I just need to find some more info & have a listen somewhere. I was thinking of going w/ Emotiva (RPA-2 & RSP-2), but I'm just not sure about that company for some reason...can't really articulate what it is. That, and I don't really care for the Emo aesthetics, tbh (I know, shallow of me).

Gee that's a healthy budget. Lot of stuff out there to be had. Are you against used? I have to admit it would be fun try a Cary or BAT pre with some big azz monoblocks!
or maybe a nice Pass Labs amp?
(this forum needs a :drooling: emoticon).

what kind of speakers are you driving, and is the room big? sounds fun, take your time...

I do not know why this amp has gone by so unnoticed by everyone. A really good price also. I'm dying for some reviews!

Far be it from me to stop you guys from your hearts' desires.
But... I dunno, the 840A can be had for less than 1/4 the price of those separates. yea, Im talking V1, but do you think the improvements to V2 is worth 4x as much?

just trying to help actually. I just want to say that budgets might be better spent towards either speaker upgrade, room treatments, sub upgrade, Audyssey SEQ, or a Rives consult.
Just making sure.... (I myself was budgeting for treatments). 300 lbs of used Real Traps + my Cambridge 840A is still less than the combined msrp of those separates, and with a LOT of money in the pocket. Cheers.

Hey, I totally get what you are saying... In my case, room treatments are already being taken care of. I'm basically starting from scratch (not exactly, but kind of--I took about a 9 year hiatus from audio stuff, got the bug again a few months ago; I'm pretty much mid-fi right now).

I just want to have separates, plain & simple. Given my propensity to suffer from upgradeitis, I want to delay it by getting pieces that I feel I could actually be happy w/ for more than 6 months at a time. I wouldn't advocate anyone else doing it the way I am...I just know myself too well. I'm fortunate in that I have the financial ability to get something about 50% of my ideal setup (hell, maybe not even 50%, tbh). I have no idea if this Cambridge gear will be purchased by me; I haven't even had a chance to listen yet. I posted on A'gon to see if there are any owners out there...no responses. I want to have a system well in place w/in 6 months; the rate I'm going, it might take me a year...speaker auditions will probably take that long given my travel/work schedule.

Seems like it is going to be hard waiting for this amp, the release in Sweden is atleast one month away, and i have already bought speakers that are waiting for a amp.

I think i will go with the NAD M25, but it sure would have been interesting to listen to the 840W

You are going to get a 7-channel amp, but were also seriously considering a 2-channel amp???
