I am thinking of signing up for Direct tv for the first time and have a issue. The tv in one of the rooms I would like service was recently remodeled and it would be impossible to run new rg6 cable without some sloppy fixes.

I would like to know if I got the older box not H25, and had the receiver with DVR in main room hooked up via cable and ethernet, if I could use a second receiver via ethernet to watch shows from main? This would eliminate live tv in that room but i would keep existing limited basic cable due to internet anyway.

Or does the receiver not work at all if no cable to the box is detected? I cant find a 100% clear answer on this through searches everywhere. If it does not work how long does service last once unhooked, exaple TIVOS can run 14 days with no contact to service.

Hope this makes sense..thanks.

The receivers need a SAT feed.

Without one, they won't know they're active on your account.
