hi, I need to run a touchscreen (1680*1050) and I'm already using both outputs on my 9600GT.

I have a spare 8400gs and my motherboard has a spare PCIx * 1 lane.

Could I safely put my 8400gs into this slot and run the touchscreen ok?

thanks for your help.

PCIe x1 itself has enough bandwidth for 2D graphics. But physically, if the slot is open-ended, yes, you can insert 8400 GS, otherwise no. You can always use a cheap PCI card (NVIDIA only under Vista) if your mb has an empty PCI slot.

Why nVidia only?

I'm looking for the least-expensive and lowest power PCI video card with a DVI port for my server. These are inevitably older ATI cards. Windows Vista provides the underpinnings for Server 2008. Is there some compatibility problem with ATI, Vista, and PCI?
