Do you have a link to the Popcorn Hour early adopters purchase?

As you probably know the mpcclub buy in is closed - I am in the first 100 list but it appears that it may not be worth while buying because the buy in price currently is 299 euros and for a US purchase (I live in the midwest) 299 euro translates to approximately $422 US.

All the Dune players can (both with Blu-ray drive and w/o). You can find a lot of discussions about these devices at MPC Club.

Also they are discussed here:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1102431

And this is not just planning, this function really works in their f/w starting from December 2008 (when I bought Dune BD Prime).

And also note that all just mentioned here "SBAID BD-100C/ Pulanda BD-100C/ iStar BDP-S600" have the same f/w which is actually stolen from Dune. Indeed some 6 months old version of the f/w is stolen, after that they didn't manage to hack any newer version as it seems the f/w is much better protected now in Dune players...

By rumors Dune will show the new version (3.0) of their devices on Sigma Designs 8642 in September at IFA Berlin and then these models (Dune HD Base 3.0 and Dune BD Prime 3.0) will be available more or less the same time as C-200. Also seems Dune players may have better pricing than C-200...

And let´s wait for more devices using the new Sigma Designs 865x series SoC.

Sigma Designs has introduced a pair of set-top box SoC’s (System on Chip) that run Windows CE and Microsoft’s Mediaroom IPTV software stack. Powered by three MIPS cores apiece, the SMP8654 and SMP8655 boast accelerated graphics and compliance with HDMI (high-defintion multimedia interface) 1.3, says Sigma.

The SMP8654 and SMP8655, differing only in the latter’s omission of Macrovision, are designed to replace the company’s "industry leading" SMP8634. And indeed, they appear to be a significant advance on it. Where the older SMP8634 had a 300MHz MIPS CPU and a 200MHz security CPU, the SMP865x chips boast triple MIPS processors, for a claimed fifty percent speed boast, according to Sigma claims:

* A 500MHz processor runs the operating system and applications

* A 333MHz processor manages interrupts and part of the network stack

* A 333MHz security CPU, deliberately inaccessible by external interfaces, manages authentication, key generation, and content access functions.

The SMP865x chips offer high definition video decoding, including H.264 (MPEG-4 part 10), WMV, VC-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4 (part 2). They also support China’s home-market AVS (audio video standard). HDMI 1.3 support offers bandwidth to 340MHz, while adding support for the Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD formats used by Blu-Ray and HD-DVD.

865x chips are much slower than 864x ones (667MHz).

Also only 864x ones can play Blu-ray discs and images...

865x is only positioned by Sigma for IPTV/VoD boxes... so cheapest and useless h/w (stupid to base fully functional media players on 865x)..

indeed identical to each other, but not to Dune.

They managed to steal only one release of the Dune f/w (March one, if I understand correctly) and cloned that release of the f/w and have totally idential h/w (but not the same as Dune)...

Besides, that f/w release was not the best one, had a lot of problems with the last BD+ protection and so many Blu-ray discs could not be played back...

New Dune f/w of July/August solved these problems and has many new features, but of course the pirates (Pulanda, iStar, Kaiboer, so on) don't have those changes...

Regarding "pirates"...

The japanese media player below uses the same chipset (Sigma Designs SMP8634LF) of the chinese "Dolly" media players, and it seems that also plays DVD/BD ISO image.

This model uses DVD loader to play SD DVD or DVD with HD material (probably plays Blu-ray in DVD (BD5/BD9))

MOVIE PIRATES is a characteristic that supports many media formats. Video file codec MPEG-1 / 2, MPEG-4 AVC/H.264, XVid, WMV9, VC-1 and many other formats to. AVC video camera that can also play it. File format (extension) to put in AVI, ASF, WMV, MPEG, MP4, MPEG-TS and other support MKV. Latest firmware (ver1.45) in adopting and Google Video FLV is supported as well. Audio MP3, WMA, WAV, AAC, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, AC3 to support the format that is used in most personal computers and other portable music players.

Blu-ray Disc (BD) DVD-Video video BDMV folder and ISO image file, info / VOB that correspond to play the file. Copyright protection does not depend on a PC to backup DVD or BD (rip) if you can play the data. BD or DVD backup, but you must provide your own software, HDD if Tame込Me data to disk without the trouble and out, you can play like the jukebox and music videos.

it seems this is a product by MVIX from Korea. If so, they don't have real BD ISO support. they only play m2ts from it (no menu and subtitles, not talking about BD Java and BD Live)

Do any of these then decode TrueHD or DTS-MA or do they bitstream over HDMI 1.3a
