Can DirectTV dish/tuner be used with Dish network

151 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  rudolpht
I was getting ready to buy a Dish setup model 6023 for the house we are buying, but last night the seller informed me that he is leaving his DirectTV dish and a tuner to me. The question is can I use any of the DirectTV equipment with Dish network.

You can certainly reuse the dish to get 61.5 or 148. You'll still need a Dish 500 for the rest of the cahnnels. Depending on wire quality and correct room. Some of that may be done too.

To expand on Rudolph's remarks.

In order to get DISH HDTV you will need two dishes. The DIRECTV dish being left to you can be used as one of them and as Rudolph said you will also need to add a DISH 500.

The DIRECTV receiver cannot be used at all with DISH.

Will it be cheaper/wiser to get the 6023 package and just replace what the current owner has now? I still have to check if he has RG59 or RG6 wiring.

It will be easiest to get a package ith just the Dish 6000 and a TWIN LNB. After reaiming existing antenna to 61.5 or 148 and installing Dish 500, you'll just need to combine signals with a SW21.

Call Mark at DishDepot and he'll give you what you need at a good price. Multiple other good vendors as well, but having someone walk you through configuration is a big helper (and good for confidence, too).
