Hey guys, I need some help. I got a 40W4100 from BB about 2 weeks ago but have been out of town. Came back and have been watching some HDTV (Comcast equivalent via HDMI) and playing some PS3 (via HDMI).

I've had the sound drop out for a second on HDTV mode and didn't think much of it (always after I left the unit paused for a few minutes) but I was just playing PoP via HDMI and the sound kinda disappeared. Came back after I switched to another input and back again and I'm wondering if this could be an issue with an HDMI cable or if it could necessitate upgrading the Firmware. I'm really happy with my set (no sparkle, no dead pixels, etc) and from what I can tell it's better to avoid upgrading the firmware if at all possible. Is this the type of thing that could be due to HDMI cables (the one I'm using with the PS3 is a cheap freebie that came with it)?

I'm concerned because Best Buy is sold out of this now and I got it at a good enough price that I'd rather not return it...

Are you running through an AVR? A cable could be the culprit but really it just seems to be a hiccup of HDMI. I had audio issues with my new Yamaha 3900 where audio would cut out on switching channels or when a commercial would come on and it would go from 5.1 audio to 2 channel audio. They released a new firmware update and I have zero issues now. I will say though that I never had any issues using my PS3 or on Blu-Ray or DVD's. It was only while watching tv. I would make sure you have the latest firmware on all your stuff and if you want to purchase another HDMI cable just get one from Monoprice.com

If you aren't using a surround system and you are just plugged directly into your tv you could just run componenet cables. You aren't gaining much with HDMI since you are listening to everything in 2 channel audio anyway (assuming you have no AVR or sound system)

Well, I haven't upgraded the firmware (still says NA) because of some of the horror stories I'd read on 202r (I also downloaded 200r from Sony's site via the link). I have spent some time looking and can't see sparkles so I figure I don't have it (seems like people say it's an obvious thing to see if you have it) and I figure no point in fixing what isn't broke (in terms of upgrading firmware).

I tried the cable on my 360 and when I booted up (just came home) the audio was absent and then glitchy. I know HDMI can have handshake hiccups but I think it may be this cable (hope so since the TV being broken would suck). I think I'll order some cables form Monoprice but dunno which ones I Need. I'm running 360, PS3, and DVR via HDMI. Monoprice has a bunch of different ones and I just want the cheapest 5-6 ft ones that will ensure I have no more of these problems.
