If I already have a programmable universal infrared remote and my HTPC already has an IR sensor on the front, will a software utility such as Girder allow me to program various PC functions (mouse-clicks, keystroke combinations) to control my various HTPC applications (such as CD/DVD players, HiPix, etc.)? Or do I have to have a separate IR sensor such as IRMan?

If the IR port on your pc that you are talking about is an IRDA port (which it probably is), then the answer is no. You'll have to get an external IR receiver of some sort (personally, I use a Slink-e, but not just for IR).

If the IR receiver is something else, like say for a wintv card with the optional remote...then you might be able to use it with girder.

cheers,

Rich
