It seems that us in the United States will never have a HDTV BluRay recorder.

Would it be very difficult to build a recorder. It would seem all one needs is a PC with a BluRay drive, a ATSC tuner card and software to connect all this together. What do you think?

First off, ATSC is the standard used for OTA HDTV. Cable uses QAM, not ATSC. What you describe can be done with OTA TV, but it's not exactly easy and/or for a novice.

To get cable HDTV(QAM) into/onto a HTPC, you need an HD tuner that uses a cable card, and the files it creates/stores on your PC are copy-protected, so you can't just burn them to a BluRay disc.

Furthermore you need to buy this tuner device included with a prebuilt HTPC from a major PC company(HP, Sony, etc) They do not sell them to individual users, only OEM suppliers.

Look in the HTPC section for more detailed information.

ASUS has a new product, this looks very interesting. Can it record to BluRay?
