Can I connect two sources to an amp?

191 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Wayne A. Pflughaupt
I have a Lepai 2020a+ currently connected via 3.5mm to an echo dot. The output goes to two speakers. I am trying to connect my PC to the same amp so I can use it for pc audio and occasionally use the echo dot for music. Will this work/not short my parts or do I need a switch?

Try it. You might experience a minor reduction in volume when they are Y'd together. Connecting this joined connection to the Lepai input should have no further effect.

As both the Dot Line Out and a PC Line Out are meant to drive headphones, their output (source) impedances are both low, and so each unit will see the other's output almost as if a speaker/headphone is connected.

Not a good idea to “y” inputs. Get an A/B switch.
