Can I copy music to a DVD?

563 Views 9 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  aeromorris
I have searched on the site but can't find any information on whether I can burn a bunch of my CDs to a DVD and have my DVD player see it like one very long CD. Probably not possible, but the idea of being able to pop in one DVD for a party, rather than 5 CDs, is appealing.

Does anyone know if this is possible and, if so, how to do it?

For a party where "critical listening" isn't a factor, I'd just rip a bunch of CDs to MP3s and then burn them to a DVD. Quite a few DVD players will decode the MP3s. 4GB of MP3s on one disc is quite a bit of music. Whether or not you can do Redbook (CD) on a DVD - I don't know.

I create MP3 CD's for parties and I think I get about 7 hours worth of music from one CD. Some DVD players can read MP3 DVD's.

There are also programs out there that can create music DVD's that should play in any dvd player.
if you're dvd player supports mp3s, then you can rip then at very high bitrates and get somewhat comparable quality. Then you can still have hours and hours of music on one dvd
"Enjoy up to 50 hours of music on a DVD with navigation menus and Dolby Digital sound."

What is a good rip product? I have nero does it allow you to rip a cd to mp3? Couldn't find it. Is there any freeware that does this? Thanks

Musicmatch Jukebox . That's what I use.
I'm not a big ripper, but I find Microsoft's Media Player to meet (almost) all my needs. Free, very fasty, brainlessly easy to use, doesn't nag you to update to the deluxe version, etc. If it would do analog -> digital it would be all I need.
tacos,

A "registered" copy of Nero has this function. The unregistered version will only rip files from CD and store them in .aac format. Then you can burn the .aac files to DVD but they will only play on a computer as most consumer dvd players can't decode that format. To find where the "burn MP3 DVD" function is in Nero, select "DVD" in the main Nero pulldown menu I think you have to use the slider bar at the bottom to see "create MP3 DVD."

FYI-Itunes will rip cd's to mp3 and then burn to mp3 dvd and it's completely free, albeit a bit slow.
