Can I get DTS please?

Hi I am fairly new to the world of a/v

and new to this site.

I just purchased my first reciever a Pioneer 7.1 VSX-1016TXVK.

I also replaced my aging norcent dvd player with a phillips 5960..

I also got the JBL 7.1s I was on a fairly tight budget.

Now the Phillips does not say it is compatible with DTS as there is no marking on it or in the manual, but it does have a coax output...

I seen in the setup of the dvd a setting to enable the digital output..

Also I can select LPCM or all...

I looked up what PCM is, but still a little uncertain..

If I hook up the coax out to my reciever which is rated for DTS will I get DTS from a dvd that has a DTS soundtrack?

Is the DTS coded signal in that digital out or LPCM signal?

You don't want the PCM. Set the DVD player to the "all" setting - that way the DTS bitstream will be passed to the receiver and decoder there.

Thanks very much I hope my reciever will get here this week so I can try it out...!

Most modern pre/pros and receivers decode good old DTS :)
At least one other thread on AVS Forum seems to indicate this unit does NOT do DTS...

If true - that would be utterly amazing for a current product - certainly reason to completely boycott Phillips.

Given the subsequent responses I realized that I didn't read the original post carefully enough. I took for granted that any current DVD player can output the DTS bitstream for external decoding.

However if whoaru99 is referring to the thread where the owner couldn't get the THX (DD) optimizer to work in 5.1, he finally did by installing the latest firmware. If DTS doesn't work with this machine out of the box, it sounds like the upgrade may be useful.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. I could hardly believe it myself but Phillips literature mentions nothing about DTS.

I took a look at the firmware upgrade listed on the Philips website and it mentioned nothing about adding DTS. Perhaps they merely forgot to mention it.
So the guy in the other thread said DTS does NOT work with this player! Amazing.

Ed
Hi, I'm a little late on the discussion but I have this player. If you set the audio out to "all" it defaults to PCM. If that happens then you must upgrade the firmware to get digital out through the coax cable. I am getting DTS out so I guess it does work.
