Can I pitch AE900 in 20 degree?

448 Views 7 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  gnomey
I am installing Pan AE 900. My celing is 9 feet high. If I hang the projector horizotaly, the center of the lens even can not reach the up side of the screen. My question is

Can I pitch the projector and make it point down around 20 degree? Does it hurt porjector or make displaying quality bad?

Your help is apprecaited.

Thanks

It could do both. At best, you'd distort the image geometrically, have to apply keystone correction, and lose resolution. This is why the advice to install the 900 within the screen boundaries is so common...there are better projectors for such installations.
Great. Thanks for the suggestion. I will give up ceiling mount then.
Definitely DO NOT use keystone correction. While it is impressive that it even works at all, image quality suffers way too much. You are wise to try another mounting method. Can you not raise your screen and/or lower your projector? My screen in my 7 foot 7" high ceiling room touches the ceiling itself. I use zero lens shift (Hitachi TX100).
Why angle it down so much? Just use an extension tube to drop the projector down to around the top of the screen.
Exactly my point. If its a little too low, you can raise it a few inches and use a small amount of lens shift. Far better than keystoning. Never keystone.
Agreed all around. I dropped my pj quite a bit to get it low enough. Much better than keystoning or living with obvious geometric distortion. If a low mount/high screen is not an option, a pj with a large fixed offset is a good idea.

Nice work, Jack!

clavinova - In addition to the reduction in image quality caused by excessive keystoning, most projectors will not cool properly at such an extreme angle.
