It's great seeing flicks and hearing that DolbyDigital discreet 5.1

on my AV rcvr via optical connection from the DVD deck. I am recording my favorite DVD flicks (s-video connects) onto ED-beta (EDV-7500 deck) with nice letterboxed picture, but my VCR only registers HiFi Stereo, and I'd like to keep the DolbyDigital 5.1 playback too if I can.

I know my receiver candecode ProLogic out of the 2 channels my vcr records, but I'm wondering if there's a way to record the DD 5.1 so I don't lose it --separately onto a digital medium, perhaps? I don't have a DVD burner, but I do have MD decks and DAT Walkman recorder ( no digital in), a digital camcorder with

Firewire, and a fast PC with Firewire on its Audigy (not Audigy2).

Isn't there a way?

thanks!

Do yourself a favor and get a cheap DVD - or even CDR - burner. The software is all free. The ripping and burning are done in a fraction of real-time.

You could use your PC as well if you didn't want to buy a DVD-R burner. The extraction to the PC's HD is pretty straight forward. Check out doom9.org or VCDHelp.com.
