Is there a way to send the digital signal (optical) to 2 separate units (via some type of y splitter)? I want to send an optical signal from my CD player to 2 separate receivers. Thanks Dave

just type "toslink splitter" in google and you will get many fairly inexpensive options.

note that you can go to one of the advertisers here, like Ram connectivity and they carry these types of things.

I assume that you are looking for a "switch" and not a splitter. Correct?

If you're looking for a switch, they can be found at RadioShack and other B&M stores.

technically you can use a splitter to switch between signals...you just can't have both things on at the same time. I have it working right now just fine.

So, if I used a y-splitter with the Toslink, I can't have both receivers playing at the same time?

Yes if you had a splitter both could play at once, if its a switch then no.

We have several splitters at work we are not using and have never opened. We are getting ready to Ebay them I could find the price for you.

Here are some on the web

Those are all the same but its what you want I think. And its cheaper than the ones we would be selling.

Right...You can't even have them both ON at the same time.

That's true for two CD players into one receiver; you'd have interfering light sources. However, unless SPDIF is bridirectional(?), I would think having two receivers and one source would be fine. However, I'm not an optical guy so maybe I'm missing something?
