Why are you using a F connector for HD? What are you trying to hook up?

THe answer is yes, you are degrading the signal by a small amount. It may be barely perceptible, or it may be enough to notice more easily, depending on the quality of the cables and connectors you are using. I am assuming you are connecting this to a projector since you are asking in this forum.

Brandon,

The bigger question is why is he using an 'F' connector for anything besides an OTA antenna??? 'F' connectors are for RG6 type cable connections. What possible equipment uses them for component HD outputs?

I guess you could go that way. But the chances of signal loss with adapters AND the potential timing/delay issues with mismatched cable lengths is also a problem.

Spend the $50-$100 and get a decent Canare component cable set and enjoy. Now how much did he spend on the HD receiver, display, sound system...

I actually have seen pretty good results running 3 50' RG6 cables from my receiver to my Hitachi 5500 projector.

I just use the F->RCA adapters from RCA

Sure, they'll work, but you may not be getting the absolute best PQ from your equipment. Opposed to digital where cables don't induce noise/color issues (except for sparklie errors) You might get a cleaner signal with better analog cables. In analog, cables do make a difference.

Not sure why you are saying this but RG-6 is a very high quality signal carrier and more robust than almost all 75 ohm cables. It is just hard to work with because the solid copper center wire doesn't allow easy bending or forming. I used iRG-6 in a previous install to pass a S/PDIF signal 70' without a problem.

William,

Yes, I agree with you. RG6 cables can be very good if constructed correctly. But, analog video can suffer from many issues (signal loss, RF interference etc) if the connectors are not properly installed. And I agree that you can make excellent quality cables yourself if you know what you are doing. I tried to make some Component Betacam video cables years ago and remember than I got timing issues because they were not exactly the same length. And yes, I have also done the same thing used RG6 for a digital audio cable too!

Relating to the poster, it sounds like he wanted to use some old cables and add adapters. I would bet that a correctly built, quality cable would outperform some old, used Comcast CableTV cable with F-to-RCA adapters on it.

Ernie's not bagging on the RG6, he's sayin the F-RCA adapter interface should go. Reterminate the RG6 with the correct RCAs and you'd be better off.

I have a big roll of RG6 that is my video and SPDIF friend. Belden 1694A.

My setup is 3 25 foot gold series Acoustic Research with gold F-connectors.

All said and done for less than $20.
