Looks like I may have to relocate to Europe, most likely Germany.

So now the question is whether I can use a Panasonic 7UY in Europe. I think it should be possible to simply use a good step down transformer. According to the specs the unit should be able to handle 50Hz and also PAL. I'm just not sure whether it can handle the European HDTV format?

The other question is whether I can use my JVC 40k D-VHS deck over there, also with a step down transformer (I'll ask this question also in the recorder forum, but maybe some knows the answer).

Maybe someone is already using the Panasonic 7UY and/or JVC D-VHS deck in Europe?

Thanks!

I think any piece of electronics can be used if you get the proper power converter. It may be expensive finding one that can handle the 7UY's 480W power consumption though.

As for the video signal, the 7UY can handle PAL on all of the analog inputs according to the manual. The verdict is still out as to whether it can do 50Hz over the DVI input.

It really seems that the 7UY should be able to run properly with a step down transformer in Europe, since it is rated 50/60Hz.

It also seems that it can handle all common formats on the analog inputs. Of course the big question is how they will transmit HDTV in Europe in the near future, i.e. DVI/HDMI w. HDCP only, or also via analog connections.

I guess if the DVI, or HDMI, blade can accept 50Hz signals all should be good. Hope to find that out.

There was a similar thread about PWD6UY, with some words from Panasonic expert, Techniwizard, here .
