I just bought a Panasonic PT-L300U front projection (LCD 16x9 native)

I am now looking to purchase an HD receiver but am very new to the market. I did some searching and have some things to go on, but would like the to hear whats the best "lately".

I will initially use the over the air signals to watch just abc, cbs, etc. but will eventially get DirecTV, so I need something compatible with that.

Whats the "hot" thing on the markt? Im looking to spend 500-600 bucks.

Thanks!

You should read the STB synopsis. Everyone has differnt preferences.

Personaly I have a Hughes e86 because it was cheap. There is no way to record HDTV off Directv and I refuse to spend alot of money on a Receiver that will be obsolite as soon as their is a way to record. Plus the Directv OTA will merge your local channels with your Sat. and the cost is not much more then a stand alone OTA.

But it really depends on you.

If you buy a new HD DirecTV/OTA receiver, you'll very likely have to activate that receiver within 30 days of purchase.

Like bdraw said, read the STB synopsis thread for more info on HD tuners.

I read the synopsis and it was very helpful, thanks guys for pointing that thread out.

I was able to find those receivers alone without having to activate directv so it looks like ill be good on that part.

Looks like Ill probably be going with the Samsung 160

Thanks!
