A Question for somebody that knows about it, thanks in advance.

I'm also interested in the technical aspects of the littler rubber pads on the bottom of the unit.

Don't know too much; from what I understand the PSlim3 has a press button on/off button; I was kind of wondering about the my self; It can't be a toggle switch because we won't be able to turn the system off with the controller. I wonder if it is a Spring loaded switch or if you can only turn the system on Stand-by by using the Controller and PS button menu/XMB. The switch on the system might be the power switch from the back of the system, not sure time will tell...

Why are these stupid threads allowed to go on?

Theres 4-5 different "slim" threads at once, then a bunch of the parody threads.

On the original PS3, not the slim, what is the purpose of the power switch on the back of the unit? and just how much harm would there be to turning it on and off everyday?

that may sound like a really stupid question but it really has made me curious.

Because the mods hate the PS3 section and never come in here. This is the AVS Wasteland.

no harm...as long as you shut down the PS3's operating system first.

The switch is there because the PS3 is an energy vampire even when off.

I must apologize for my contibution to the poor state of this once informative forum, however I do find that more often than not parody will anger the right people

I like the part where the only area on the PS3 slim that is still shiny and a fingerprint-magnet is the area around the power and eject buttons.

I hope it clicks really loud 'cuz I have a bit of OCD and I need that audio feedback to tell me I just turned the thing on. Shiny blue lights just aren't enough.

It's just like a computer. The switch on the back is the "master" PSU switch. Normally, when you turn your PS3 "off" it is really on "standby" mode consuming electricity so it can detect when you use your controller.
