can the Dish Network 622 be used as OTA tuner?

I am looking for a STB tuner to pull in the local HD channels --and I have no need for any cable/subscription service at this time.

Anyone know if the Dual 622 will work for OTA without a (dish network) subscription?

Thanks

I think you're out of luck on that - newer Dish receivers have to be activated on an account AND paid an HD activation fee, AND you have to subscribe to your locals in order for them to show up in the EPG as anything but "Digital Service". I might be wrong here.
I pretty much thought so. Figured I'd run it past here anyway.

Thanks

So if you have a Vip 622 and subscribe to HD channels incl HD locals, and want to also pull-in the OTA HD locals, is the method to connect the antenna to the back of the vip622 in addition to the satellite feed? Or is it better to run the OTA directly to display and then send the audio out of display (Sony XBR2) via optical to Audio receiver?

I am looking for the option of selecting OTA channels instead of the E* HD channels when I want to. Additionally E* does not carry some of the broadcast HD locals in my region.

Any thoughts on best hookup would be appreciated.
You have to connect the antenna to the 622, it directly captures the mpeg2 signal.

If you subscribe to dish locals the HD versions if carried will be in the 5xxx range and on the broadcast number with zeros.

For example, 15 broadcasts hd on dish and ota the guide will show

15-00 SD Dish channel

15-00 HD Dish channel w/ HD logo

15-01 Digital channel from your antenna

You don't have to subscribe to locals to record OTA but they hide the guide data if you don't so you have to set manual timers similar to the VCR days.
