I like action / animation / adventure / thriller / disaster flicks like POTC, Batman begins, V for Vendetta, The Island, The Day after tomorrow, I-Robot , War of the Worlds, Incredible s, Cars etc that can make me watch the movie many times.

I am planning to buy the below movies.

The Prestige

Blood Diamond

The Departed

Pan's Labyrinth

Wanted to know if the above movies would suit my taste. If these movies aren't worth watching more than a couple of times I would refrain from buying it.

Please advice.

A 100% yes on the Prestige, and Departed. Blood Diamond is great - just don't know if it's a type of movie you sit through multiple times. Haven't seen Pan's Labyrinth - but I bet everybody who has seen it will say yes.

I"ve watched The Prestige twice and it held up well. I hope to rewatch The Departed soon as I loved it the first time around and it's my type of film... i.e. mob related. Haven't seen the other two yet.

Seeing as you live in Japan, you might be familiar with the Hong Kong film series, Infernal Affairs. You might already be aware of this, but in case you're not, The Departed is a Hollywoodized version of the first Infernal Affairs, and even takes some scenes pretty much verbatim. So if you're familiar with Infernal Affairs, that should give you a pretty clear idea of whether The Departed would work for you.

As for the others, the only one I've seen is The Prestige, and I would also say that one is probably worth a purchase.

Based on the movies you listed first, you won't like those four even though they are all terrific. They aren't 'passive' viewing experiences like the others you listed, they have real depth.

But you would definently like Stomp the Yard and Primeval.

I've seen The Prestige only once, so can't comment on that. But I'm not sure I would watch it over and over again.

Blood Diamond I've seen about 4 times already, a terrific movie, def. buying it come June 5th. I'd watch it over and over again.

I've watched The Departed 3 times and still like it a lot. I'd also watch it over and over again.

Haven't seen Pan's, so can't comment.

You will like them all
A great selection of titles that will not collect dust on your shelf!

For the ppl that haven't seen PL: it may not be for everyone, but I really enjoyed it. If you think you would like a great fantasy story aimed at a more mature audience, you will like it. You should probably rent it first or borrow a copy from a friend before taking the plunge on the BR

Blood Diamond is super action packed with lots of loud AK gunshots and explosions and genocidal crime. Not to mention an awesome performance by decaprio.

Now on second thought I'm going to pre-order it.(are the warner codes still working)

I already watched Pan's Labyrinth twice since I got it last friday. How did it not win best foreign Pic. (the HD version would be awesome since the Faun is super detailed and the black levels would really help)

Pan's Labyrinth is my favorite movie from 2006.

Is it available on Blu-ray yet? Maybe just in Japan?
