Can this machine built do what I want and if so can I squeeze it down for budget reasons.

Mother board: Gigabyte Ga-K8NS Ultra 939

Processer: Athlon 64 3000

Memory: 2 512mb sticks

Video: Gigabyte GeForce 6600GT (I have a Samsung 61" dlp so I want to use DVI output)

Tuners: 2 FusionHDTV3 Gold QAM cards and 1 Hauppauge usb analog card

Audio: 5.1 from MBO

Hard drive: 80 gig for OS/misc and 300 gig for DVR

DVD burner: NEC nd-3520A Dual layer

Case: Coolmaster around $123.00

OS: MEC 2005 with remote

This all adds up to be about $1500. A little high for me, I was looking at 1000.00 to 1200.00usd

My goals for this machine are this:

Record 2 HD programs at one time

Record Analog basic cable programs

Time shift (fast forward/rewind)

Watch dvd's

Pipe the audio to my receiver for 5.1 dts

As stated above I have a Sammy 61" DLP (HLN617W) Love it.

I currently have the Sammy up-converting DVD player Couldn't really tell the difference between DVI and Component. Hope the HTPC with 1:1 scaling with make a big difference on the DVD side.

Thanks as always

look for the deals is really all I can say....

but,

you can get a barebones kit from Tigerdirect.com ( SHOWN HERE ) which whould save you some money there. (should save you $150 - $200 when cutting out the cooler master case and extra ram, dont nessarily need 1gig of ram)

Do you really need two HD recordings? if not just cut back to on HD card and one SD card, get the internal haugepauge PVR 150 card can be had for as little as $50. (could save you about $200 to $300) also dont quote me on this but I belive you can only do one HD recordings with MCE anyways.

Are you going to be playing any games? if not Pick up a FX 5700 card, they have outstanding image quality and is prefered by many here for great image quality for DVD playback. (should save you about $80 to $100)

you could look at just going for a 200 or 250gig HDD to start out with, a 250 can be had for as little at $100 now days.

check out pcalchemy.com for the MCE bundles they have, you can pick up a copy of MCE, nvidia codecs (which are going to be needed anyways), the MCE remote with blaster, and a haugepage PVR 150 card for right around $229.00

by shopping around to seperate locations you generally will save a few bucks here and there which in the end will add up.

hope this helps,

Josh

I was hopeing for more feedback Folks.

I can't really add more than Umdivx. I think it is a good idea to look at the 64 bit motherboard and 1 gig of ram. If you are hooked on 2 HDTV tuners and MCE, then you don't have a lot of other options for PVR. This leaves the video card and the case. The 6600 is a nice choice, it it would be hard to cut more than $50 by going with a cheaper card.

Bottom line is drop the case and get a cheapie $25 beige box. Save your nickels and buy the coolermaster in a few months. This saves you $100. Hold off on one of the Fusion cards and you are at your target of $1200. Both the case and Fusion are easy upgrades, although the case is a little tougher to sneak past your significant other.

Seeing:D as she is blind in one eye and can't see out of the other, I'll find a way to get the case in later on.:p

On a serious note Thanks. I have a really old gateway desktop case from back when they were known as Gateway2000 (thats old). I bet I can use it until prices drop.

OK after looking at the 4DX2-66V case there is no way it would work. The thing only has a 145w psu and the rear openings most likely wouldn't line up. I could cut it up to work but why? It will be worth something to the museums soon.

Anyone else with some feed back is still desired and welcome.

Thanks
