Can we expect Wizard of Oz & the Ten Commandmants in HD anytime soon?

I would love to get those movies in HD DVD.

I'd say definitely for The Wizard of Oz. I believe that was on some of the early Warner lists and it seems like a natural choice. I'd be surprised if that doesn't show up within a year.

Ten Commandments... I dunno. I haven't heard any rumors that Paramount is considering it, although it also seems like a good choice. Maybe early '08? In time for the Easter holiday season?
I'm sure they wouldn't do it, but how wild would it be if the first few minutes of Oz were in (upconverted) SD, then Alice wakes up in Oz in full color HD glory? Just to further accentuate the transition.
DRAT!!! Dorothy! I'll leave my mistake in place for the humor value.

TNT had OZ in HD earlier this year. It was a 4:3 aspect ratio but it was clearly in HD which kind of threw me for a loop. Was this movie filmed in 4:3 I'm not to familiar with what the aspect ratio standards were at the time.

It was sharp and looked really good and was not to grainy but the HD showed the makeup jobs pretty badly. You could see all the lines in the Lions and Tin Mans makeup.
Yes, Oz was shot in Academy ratio, 1.33:1.

1954 is when widescreen releases really took hold. There were a trickle in '52 and '53, but pretty much everything before that was 1.37:1.
Darn! That means black bars....ugh...

I have held off on Wizard of OZ for HD for a long while now, would love to have this title in HD. Me and the family sa the musical Wicked, last fall and man wow, blew me away.

I would be all over The Ten Commandments in an instant. Great classic.

Even Passion of the Christ should be released on HD DVD. We should be having high-def Easters in the 21st Century!
I don't think OZ would be a good idea. Even on the DVD you can see all the flaws and poor makeup jobs that would look extra horrible in HD.

Yes, Oz is filmed in the Academy ratio (4:3).

Why would that throw you for a loop? HD doesn't have anything to do with aspect ratio. Things can be 4:3, 16x9, or 2.35:1 and still be in high definition. We've had software releases in all of these ratios.

I have an HD version from a few years ago with a very high bitrate that looks awesome! Your suggesting we blur a whole beautiful face because of a pimple.
I'd rather have Ben-Hur than either of the those two.

I think the HD master is already done, too...they just released the 4 disc DVD set not too long ago.
I think I read that Wizard of Oz would be out by the end of 2007. The Ten Commandments in the past has been released before Easter with both DVD issues. My guess is Paramount will release it sometime next March '08.
