Through replay itself, you can record 1 show and playback a recorded show

simultaneously.

Outside your replay you can do what you want. Split the signal before it

reaches replay. If you use Replay's internal tuner, your TV and cable box

operate just like Replay wasn't attached meaning you can watch anything

you want and Replay will record on its own off to the side.

If your Replay uses the cable box, then the cable box will be tuned to

whatever Replay is recording, but you can still watch what you want using

the TV tuner, or if your cable box has 2 tuners, you can still use the cable

box while replay is recording.

the way my replay is connected (let me know if there is a better way)

the coaxial cable comes in to the cable box, then from the cable box through the S-Video goes to the replay TV, then from the replay TV to the Projection TV is Component cable.

I can split the coaxial cable before the cable box but then I will not be able to get the premium channels (HBO, SHOTIME etc...)

I can't split it after the cable box because when I change the channel it will change what is being recorded

Chances are that you do NOT have a cable box with two tuners. So you probably cannot use this trick to watch premium channels.

So... while you can at least (with enuf' input switches everywhere) watch basic cable while the Replay watches the cable box, to me this still is a "NO" to your basic question.
OK thank you

basic cable is better than nothing

thanks for the quick response
