canadian customs?

259 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Lightjug
Hey:

I will most likely be purchasing an EAD Theatermaster Ovation off of Audiogon and was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with customs(I'm in Canada and he is in the US) as it relates to HT/audio gear? Such as, how much can I expect to pay in regards to duty and gst? Or do I even have to being as it's used gear?

any help would be appreciated

Tristan

P.S/ if this is in the wrong forum I will gladly repost it in the correct one, it seemed like the best bet but you never know:)

It's a crap-shoot, depending on new vs. used, shipper and (for new stuff) country of origin. Typically UPS is the most expensive. A tip on used purchases: It gets cheaper if it's a "gift" or a "commercial sample" ;)
We had a bunch of silk (around 100 yards) shipped from overseas. All they had to do was stamp each bolt (3) as samples for very cheap customs charges. It would have been a lot more if they weren't marked as samples.
thanks for the replies. How do you mark it as a gift or sample? Are they stamps or something that you can get at ups fredex or whatever?

When you send something from Canada to the USA or vise versa, you must declare by an affixed label what's inside the package and it's approximate value.
