ttt. Anybody have preferences? which is better

or the Canon HG10?

What are the differences between these models?

Does the HV20 record in 1900pix or 1440? There seems to be confusion here.

What about the HR10?

Hey way to resurrect a thread from 5-07! If money is a issue I would do a thorough price checking & go for a the one with the lowest price from a reputable place. If not go for the Canon HF10/100

ack, thats because this forum looks dead, can't find any other comparison threads. HDTVs, blue rays, Camera, laptop forums are much more popular and have tons of info on their products.

I would definitely go with the HF10 but that comes out in May 1st. I need a camera by March 27th,
no if or buts.

I like either the HV20 or the HG10. But what is the quality difference besides the Harddrive vs Tape. The HR10 shoots in dvd I believe- not sure if I want that but it is on sale for $730 right now at Dell.

I think the HV20 does 1440x1080. The HR10 does 1920x1080? So HR10?....might be it since it is on sale.

Any other opinions, caveats?

I don't know whats the deal with the HF10/100 availability, main reviewers have them. I hear that some small select camera shops have some. I'am just eagerly awaiting mine from a pre-order.

Ebay has them(do a search for them).......direct from Japan. 1000$+ though....

Should be a week or two for the rest of the world.

HG10 HR10 HV20/30 All record in 1440x1080. The HR10 has a *lower* bitrate and I would avoid it, unless you NEED DVD recording.

HF10/100 record in 1920x1080 with a higher bitrate(samplerate) then the HG10/HR10

It's nearly impossible to tell the difference between 1920x1080(16:9) and 1440x1080(4:3).......you need eagle eyes and a magnifying glass and most pro camcorders are 1440x1080.
I been eyeing that fisheye lens on ebay, I might bite. Don't know if its legit though, if it'll fit on a hf10.

If you're considering a cam like the HG10 with hard drive, then you owe to yourself to look at the new SR10/11/12 Sony cams. These will produce a better picture than the HG10 due to their higher resolution and next gen AVCHD processing. It looks like the upcoming HF10 with card recording only, will have similair quality, but it might be too late for you.

Some people still like tape and others are done with tape. With the SR11 you get about 7 hours or so of the highest quality HD footage and the SR12 gives you nearly 15 hours. You can also record to memory sticks too. So it's easier with these cams to produce a lot of footage without changing media or tapes.

So it boils down to which format you prefer.
I thought that the HV20 records at 1920 * 1080?
Cannon tech. rep. told me that official shipping date for HF-10 was March 17th. Hi said that it will take approximatelly week to see them at the stores. I ordered from Dell. Dell is saying April 1. I hope he did not just spinned my head just for the hell of it.

No, the sensor 'sees' at 1920X1080, but the HDV format limits resolution to 1440X1080.
Well, that sucks.
Last Day for the Circuit City 10% coupon(last day for this coupon) to be applied to the HV20. It is listed at $729 and with 10% off brings it to $650, however Circuit City charges State taxes which brings it back up to $720.

However places like B&H does not charge taxes. But right now it is still high at B&H at $799. Best to wait until B&H or similar online sites offer sales and you don't have to pay the friggin taxes!!!
