Canon Xeed Sx50 - Available

A number of German online dealers are advertising the Canon XEED SX50 at between Euro 3100 and 3499. I have just placed an order with www.computeruniverse.com and total cost (including Irish VAT at 21%) including delivery was Euro 3366 (approx $4000). Based on this I would expect this projector to be available in the US for a good deal less than $4000 as prices in Europe are inclined to be higher than in th USA ... as German vat is 16%, Irish VAT is 21% and UK VAT is 17.5%.

Hmm, this is interesting ... 3366/1.21 = 2781 Euros. 1xEuro is approximately USD$1.24 so before Irish VAT its like $3449. Minor adjustment since its including your delivery from Germany to Ireland.
If traditional pricing holds true, we might expect similar prices (1:1) over here (much more efficient logistics/distribution on this side of the pond, and all). More important than pricing info, let us know how it looks!

I dont see how someone could go wrong with this projector at this price point! JVC higher contrast 1400X1050 chips, bypass the on board scaler using a htpc, have wm calibrate it and for under 5000 you should be in heaven.

I still dont understand why JVC is not advertising a higher contrast spec on the SX21, do they plan on producing two different 1400X1050 panels, one for the SX21 and the other for sales to cannon and for HX2?

There is more to contrast ratio than the panels. The specs look like they are in the right ballpark for the SX21 to me.

I suspect that I will have a long wait before I actually see the projector as it is not actually in stock at www.computeruniverse.de. However, as soon as I get it I will post details.

I have noticed that it is the Realis SX50 in the USA.

BTW, I cannot find any reference to bulb life.

I realize there is more to contrast than panels. When i asked one of the main developers of the HX2 what the increase in contrast was mostly associated with he said "tweaks in panel configuration"
