I just purchased a Sony VGC-LT353 Computer. My Canon XH-A1, when connected to the Firewire, is recognized as a Canon XH-A1 and searches for the driver, BUT no driver can be found. Canon says there is no driver required, Sony says they have all the updated drivers installed. Because of this problem I am unable to donwload any video to this new computer. Any solutions folks know of?

The XH-A1 uses the HDV format. Typically when importing HDV video you use whatever editing software to import the footage i.e. Premiere Pro, Vegas, etc. You have to set it to import HDV footage & not DV.

Otherwise you would use a standalone software to import raw files. My JVC GR-HD1 included a standalone software package that just captured raw files to the computer.

I believe Sony's have a standard program called Picture Gear? that you can also use. You have to update the settings on either your NLE or the Sony program to automatically capture video when the cam is connected.

Good luck.
