an h264 decoder could be ffdshow or core-avc.. haali is a splitter/renderer and mpc-hc have integrated within the decoder (as video lan client)

Which h.264 decoders do you actually have installed?

CoreAVC? Cyberlink's PowerDVD's decoders? ffdshow? If you want to use MPC-HC's decoders in MP you need to install the standalone filters:

wow u can download each seprate filter, i dont even know which ones i need, obviously the matroska one for my .mkv, maybe the ac3dts one for sound? crap..

Ok start by downloading MPCVideoDec.zip.

Go here: http://www.softella.com/dsfm/index.en.htm

and use filter manager to install MPCVideoDec.ax which will be in the zip file.

Then have a look and see if you now have a decoder showing up in your Mediaportal config.

If you've already installed Haali splitter you should be good to go for playing back h.264 mkv files.

For sound you can either use the filter Mediaportal installs (MPA Decoder - configure it under Direct Show Filter Control in mp's config) or use another such as Ac3filter.
