If you can get 400, you are pointed correctly. You said Dish and I think you meant DirecTV. Also, try 376 Nasa, if you get that then you are pointed correctly. And, finally, you have to subscribe to HBO to get 509 and you have to subscribe to DirecTV to get 199.
I don't think you need to be registered with DirecTv to get the HDTV demo loop at 119 sat (I could be wrong). The problem may be that all the HD STB for DirecTv expects that you have an "oval" PLUS dish running through a multiswitch. This configuration requires that that you have dual LNB(two outputs) to toggle through the multiswitch (13v and 18v (odd/even transponders)). HD loop is on an odd transponder (13v). Make sure that on the DTC-100 you choose Oval 2 sat for your DISH setup. Hook up the coax from the box to the Round DISH and try channel 199 on the STB. It should work, assuming you've got a strong signal from 119.
I know with 100% certainty that you don't have to subscribe to HBO to get the demo loop.
It's just silly, though, to have to subscribe to Directv to get the demo channel, maybe because it's a HD PPV channel as well? FYI, I used a dual LNB 18" dish pointed at 119 and connected to the RCA and was able to get the loop (of course the box was subscribed to Directv already). Maybe you need to point at 101 first to get some updates?
All well, I was gonna try to get the demo channel with an unsubscribed toshiba DST 3000. The DST 3000 requires that you point to 101 to download the proper Directv "guide" and 199 was not an available channel, but neither was 400 or the NASA channel, who knows. I'll play around with it and see what comes of it. Maybe this is more time than it's worth for a demo channel, but it is HD!
