canvas prints instead of acoustic panels

Hi all, I'd like to get acoustic panels for my home theater but my wife refuses. Will canvas prints help in any way? or is it not worth the trouble and money?

you can custom print fabrics to cover DIY acoustic treatments. Big thread on the subject on this forum.

Here is one commercial offering. Acoustic Art Panels - GIK Acoustics - Canvas Art that Reduces Noise

I told my wife that, but she still refuses. so how much sound improvement do you think i'd get from canvas prints?

Canvas prints alone will do absolutely nothing to improve the sound.

Even if you have a 2” thick panel filled with the proper insulation & wrapped in a canvas print it won’t really do anything. The typical canvas that prints are on don’t allow the proper frequencies to pass through.

You can call around to find a print shop that can print any art your wife likes on the proper material (Guilford of Maine is ideal). But you want it sublimated not silk screened in order for the “ink” to not plug up the material. You want frequencies to pass through the material after it’s printed, very important.

I believe the referral of GIK is that same process. If your wife is ok with the look of canvas prints then I don’t see why she wouldn’t like this option as it looks almost identical. Canvas will have a shinier look over the printed art panels but if you want acoustical absorption to help treat the room this is your best option.
ok thanks
Not trying be rude but what is the issue with them. Those art panels a very nice. And im pretty sure you can send them a pic you want. Surely you can find a print she would like. You must have pictures on your walls.

I'm trying not to be rude myself, but my original post said "my wife". so you shouldn't have had to ask that question. :)

lol. tell me about it. but we are still enjoying it. the speakers are about 5 feet away from the side walls and are pointed inwards. we are happy with how it sounds anyways. I just think our walls are bare and need something. might as well have them absorb some sound if we're going to hang anything on them.

I'll check that out later, thanks
That's the thread you want, but you have to go pretty deep in the thread to find the current recommendation. After reading the first page or two i would start from the end and go backwards.

Yes my take it is easy to find high definition movie poster graphics online. But some of the printers have clamped down on their willingness to reproduce images with unclear copyright privileges.
So is the issue the actual treatments, or not wanting to spend money on them. You referenced both.

You can get a print of your family portrait, or your wedding picture. Sometimes it's better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission. Sometimes.
Check Craigslist for acoustic panels, I got mine from a local producer who makes them. Pretty inexpensive this way.
I had GIK put my photos on my acoustic panels and they look fantastic. I wish I would have put my photos on all of my panels. I did get the thick panels but they do have different sizes.

The rest of my house has my own photos on the walls. I dont want to see my own photos cause I'll just see the bad parts of them and drive me nuts
