This is one of those disks, I did not plan to buy, but I saw this in a store and picked it up because it appears to have showed up a week early.

This is a VC-1 encode. Starting at around 20Mbps, after 20minutes or so, you get above 33Mbps pretty much most of the time. Peaking above 39Mbps is consistent, I also see a few rare peaks above 44Mbps.

I think it looks good enough, no CGI though.

There is a 5.1PCM audio track along with a 5.1 DD.

I think there is only one eye candy scene : the air ballon flight over Venice with fireworks in the backround. The rest is mostly people talking. And Venitian architecture - windows, wood carvings, houses, water, gondolas.

Interesting. Thanks for the heads up.

This seems to indicate that Disney may be switching to VC-1 permanently for their future encodes. This can only be good news for those of us who like to have EVERYTHING on their BD-50s

I can't wait to hear what they intend to do with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Yeah, I saw it at Walmart here in Ottawa, yesterday. I wasn't aware it was out early. I'm looking to grab Flyboys. Future shop and Best Buy,s websites say they have it, but I don't think they are selling it until next week.

PQ wise, it's pretty good. I think I'm not gushing praise because there's no explosions or spaceships or zombies or aliens in this one.

In fairness, I've never been to Venice, so for all we know, maybe Venice does look that beaten down and worn down. (Come to think of it, I think it looks like Casino Royale's Venice).

It doesn't mean anything except that Disney is experimenting with different codecs. Flightplan was the first one to use VC-1 and most of their titles have been AVC on the BD-50's. The weird thing is they use the most space effective codecs on the larger discs while most of their BD-25's are MPEG2. No complaints from me cause so far I have been pleased with all of their titles. Never seen Dinosaur, so I can't comment on that one. I should have my copy of Casanova tomorrow along with Alien vs Predator.

I like movies with aliens and lots of action, but AVP... Never mind, there is some action in there, but AVP is not in the same class as the other alien or predator series. (except maybe Alien III - both AVP and Alien III can make me sleepy).

Aside from the PQ, which I now find to be very good. (VC-1 with peaks at 44, how can anyone complain?) The soft detail on the faces is because these people have waaay too much makeup, Oliver Platt did not, and there was no problem there.

Btw, Oliver Platt is in this one and Dangerous Beauty. Perhaps he and Venice have a special mystical bond?

Casanova's story is passable, but I think Dangerous Beauty was a much better movie.

The main feature is probably 31.4GB (or maybe 32.8GB), the 3 biggest files are 1.4, 16.7GB, 14.7GB. 31.4GB is most likely. If 31.4, then total AV bitrate is about 37Mbps. If 32.8GB, then 39.5Mbps is the avg total AV bitrate.
