I started my quest for good sound with this receiver and Bose AM 10 III (powered subwoofer) system. I agree that Bose may not be good at base but I was getting very poor base response. I have tried to use another sub woofer and still got same result. I have got better results with a Onkyo HTIB costing $500.

Finally I have got info form Yamaha support that if a speaker is set to large this receiver sends full bandwidth to that speaker irrespective of crossover frequency setting. So I am going to try to set speaker size to small and try.

THE problem with your lack of bass is Bose.

I agree! Your problem is Bose, not the Yamaha! I have a Yamaha RX-V2400 and I am getting plenty, and plenty, and plenty of bass out my HSU STF-2 and Dayton STF-2 (my mutant Dayton). I've set my 2400's crossover to 80 Hz, all speakers to SMALL, and BASS OUT to BOTH.

Thanks for your response.

I have released that my problem is Bose but even with Bose I should have got some low frequency response. The main problem was I have used Yamahas optimizer which sets all speakers to large by default. I am planning to switch to a infinity beta system. Even after switching to Infinity I would not have got good LF response if I have not realized about setting speaker size to small.

Do you have an additional subwoofer besides the bose "bass module" or are you assuming that the bass module is supposed to reproduce low frequencies?

You will get good bass response from the Infinity betas if you set the main speakers to large. Not wall shaking bass, but good bass.

I have a separate subwoofer and Bose accustoms module also has a powered subwoofer I have connected both. After setting speakers to small I am getting good LF.

Thanks. ;)

Acoustimess modules are only good down to 50hz (weakly though).

If you set them to large, with a sub, you will (most of the time) have a decrease in bass response, due to cancellations.

One issue is that you have a Bose Acoustimass module and a seperate subwoofer. In a typical Bose hookup (i.e. no seperate sub), the five speaker outputs go to the bass module and from that module to the speakers. In that setup, the sub out on the receiver must set to no/off and all speakers set to large. The Bose bass module will play the low frequencies and pass the rest of the signal on to the speakers. Having the bass module and a subwoofer was just efiin everything up. Good move dumping the Bose system in this case! (in every case?!?)
