I'm watching NCIS on ch 80 and noticed a one frame flash of the DirecTV full screen blue logo. This was at about 8:40 ET. Anyone else see this? I noticed this last night except I don't remember which HD channel I was watching. Could this be related to DirecTV trying to get Fox-HD on line?

8:51 and it did it again, this time several flashes.

I actually saw this on Monday night whilst watching D*'s feed of CBS-HD from NYC. (was either during Raymond or CSI:Miami). I normally don't even use Channel 80....but my OTA NYC CBS-HD feed was bombing because apparently they are working on the antenna.

I was watching CBS-E, Channel 80 last night and it went blank at midnight in the middle of Letterman. Almost like an electronic switch was turned off. Did I read somewhere that this is an issue at the station in NY not an D* issue?

Also, I notice some freezing of the picture on Monday evening and the jumping ahead to catch up. Something like what happens to sat Radio when you go under a long bridge, etc. Acts like a temporary loss of signal. This was also on CBS-E. We can't however just assume this is a D* problem. Anyone have first hand knowledge about these events or are we just guessing? My guess would be some faulty equipment somewhere in the transmission system which could be either at the network or D*.

So not to start a new thread I thought I'd post that DirecTV ch 80 CBS-HD east has a blue screen logo up with the notice that "This station is not currently broadcasting". Is the station really down? Can anyone in NYC area verify they are getting WCBS-DT OTA?

Channel 80, it seems, always goes blank around midnight in the middle of Letterman. I have called D* to complain about this but if the rep is even capable of a response, they blame it on the feed from CBS.

Even though I can get OTA CBS channel 3 from Philly, I usually get a better signal through the satellite. When 80 went dead tonight, I clicked over to 3.

A bit of cynicism is in order however with regard to the explanation given by D*. It happens too regularly and corresponds too closely to the program schedule to not be intentional. There must be conditions under which it is more profitable for the local O&O to shut off the feed to D* The fact that viewers are inconvenienced is not part of the equation.

I read in a thread somewhere that WCBS has been doing transmitter maintenance at night and they shutdown at around midnight. Maybe tonight's shutdown means they are about done.

i can't count how many times this has been said... WCBS-DT (ie channel 80 on D*) turns off the trasmitter around 11pm-midnight to conserver power. it is NOT DirecTV's fault.

That is because, as I understand it, WCBS-DT goes dark after the 11 p.m news.

Federal regulations do not require stations to broadcast digitally all the time -- yet.

And so some stations save the money.

Be as cynical as you like, but it isn't, in this case, DirecTV's fault.

It has nothing to gain by turning off the CBS HD feed.

It is NOT to save power. Work is being done after midnight.

And the problem with CBS-E last night was not it being turned off around midnight, but that it went off the air at like 9pm or 10pm eastern, because here on the west coast I turned it on to watch Without a Trace around 6 or 7 (whatever time it comes on) and I had that blue screen. So what was up with CBS-E last night that was totally different from any other night? Were they doing extra work?
