CD Japan is having a sale on a bunch of DVDs from Fox and MGM. They show "Speed", "Spaceballs", and the original "Planet of the Apes" as 16x9, and they are all priced reasonably at $21.18 plus shipping from Japan. Does anyone know if these 16x9 transfers are any good? I've heard in the past that the R2 "Planet of the Apes" wasn't all that much better than the R1 non-anamorphic.

Thanks!

joekun,

I can tell you this, I have the french apes box (also anamorphic).

The first two films look absolutely gorgeous.no disturbing EE, definition is outstanding.Simply perfect.

Now I didn't see neither the R1 release (can't compare) nor the R2 japenese version .
