In my one story house, I am building a dedicated enclosed room of 12'W x 16'L x 10'H to a home theater with two seats in front and three on a riser in the back. With a front projector shining on a screen, acoustical GOM fabric stretched over sound deadening/absorbing material on the walls, and carpeting with a pad of some kind, what is the best for the ceiling?
The easy way out is to paint the ceiling flat black, but what about acoustic material in black on the ceiling? Above the ceiling in the attic is R-30 fiberglass. The acoustic material stretched over sound deadening/absorbing material might cut down the sound from escaping the room, which is good, but in my smallish room would it negatively affect the sound by making the room too dead mostly for action movies? Do you need some reflective surfaces, like maybe the back wall?
In a commercial movie theater, the ceiling looks like black acoustical tile.
