Has anyone ever attempted installing a VGA outlet on their celling for a projector? I realize VGA cables are expensive as hell, but i only need a few meters from the HTPC to the outlet. Sounds doable, but what do you guys think? What kind of cable and jack (do they even exist?) would i use?

I would not make my own cable. It is a lot of work to solder that many cables to a DB-15. I would use a pre-made cable and a cable a few meters long should not cost a great deal. A number of female-female VGA jacks exist. Liberty wire has them, so does Extron and Middle Atlantic Products. If you look in a pro publication like CEPro or System's Contractor you will find any number of manufacturers with these wall plates

The best cables are made from RG-59 coax. This is why soldering them is such a pain.
