Center Channel Suggestion

776 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Ryan Statz
Hello everyone,

I’m upgrading my living room HT(25*12*10 ft)

AVR: Denon X1400h
Mains: Boston Acoustics A26, upgraded to Q Acoustics concept 40
Sub: No woofer to FV15HP
Rears: moving BA26 back to rears after QA 40 is delivered
Center: Boston Acoustics A225C

I’m trying to find a suitable upgrade to A225C that can work well with QA 40. Budget (~500 USD). Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Emotiva C2+
In the country I live in, C2 and kef q650c are similarly priced. Infact kef is ~10% cheaper. Would the choice still be Emotiva?

If you have the space for the C2+ it's a no-brainer. The Q650c is not a bad center but it only has one active woofer (the second one is just a passive bass radiator). The C2+ has TWO active woofers, two rear ports and a bigger enclosure so it will provide more headroom and play much "bigger" as well as deeper. It's basically a 3 way tower speaker laid down horizontally.

When you consider that the center does up to 80% of the HT output, it only makes logical sense that it SHOULD be the biggest and best speaker in any HT setup.

Would my old 8Ohm x1400h be able to drive c2+?

Yes, unless you listen at ear-shattering levels.

A concept center or a concept 20 will be your best options. If you have multiple listening positions and sit 10+ feet away, a Q650c could be a good option sins it will match the Concept 40's a little better.

I failed to look at the flag of origin - if it's easier for you to get the KEF Q650c, then go with that.
