Hi!

My Panasonic 37 incher will be home any time now (37PWD7UY). I was wondering about the placement of my center speaker. My speaker is supposed to be magnetically shielded. I was wondering if I can put it on top of my plasma. I know in the tube TVs .. this is a big no no since the colors start getting messed up. But how about the plasma?

My sony center speaker does not have a wall mounting hole in it ... is there a 'screw-less / hole-less' mounting system?

Thanks!

I tried placing mine below, which produced a pleasing, cheery, effect. But you have to keep getting up to poke the fire and, of course, eventually you'll have to throw a new center speaker in there or it will die out.

[Just kidding!]

The important thing to remember is that your center speaker may have a limited vertical dispersion, which means that ideally you would like it at ear level when seated. This is more important the closer you are seated to the speaker. Since you are not going to have ear height as an option when your setup is above a fireplace you'll probably want to consider tilting the center speaker down a bit. If you place it under the display you'll have less tilt to worry about but of course that means you'll have to tilt your neck back further to point your eyes at the display when seated and watching. That argues for putting the speaker above the display. But putting the speaker up close to the ceiling may cause boominess due to the reflections off the ceiling (tighter bass coupling to the wall/ceiling corner).

It's all compromises. In the end, the best choice may be simply what looks best from a decor point of view.

Just wondering if you liked the warm tones it produced or if the speaker tended to run to hot :p

Finally convinced... Straingt from Sony's website:

Linky :

- CRT TVs: Speakers need to be magnetically shielded, so as not to interfere with the CRT electron guns.

- Plasma panels need no magnetic shielding from your loudspeakers.

hi rts,

I don't think you know me but I met you on very good threads on Panny ED and was impressed with your evenness. I just ordered same 37' Ed from VA and will soon be knocking my head over this panny. Now looking for a stand that you bought as I have very a small space to put this on. Any words of advice for me?

Ebay. :)

Search for " Panasonic Stand ".

The Models is TY-ST42PA20 .

Don't buy the TY-50PX20 Stand. It doesn't fit in the Commercial Models.

Thank you Paulyim for your nice comments. Yes, Bruzzi pointed you to the right direction .. TY-ST42PA20 is the stand I bought from ebay for 68 shipped (though people have tried their best to give me buyer's remorse by telling me that they got fr 30 shipped!)

Well, I just got my 37" pana .. so I guess you and me will be knocking our heads together over the course of next few weeks ... That's what forum friends are .. once your wife is pissed off at your shopping habits!

There's someone selling one of those at Ebay. Great as you don't have to paint it.

That's the Stand I was using with my (Sold) TH-37PWD6UY Plasma. :)
Bruzzi ... by disclosing about that one lonely stand on ebay .. you have jacked up the final bid for it!

I emailed that guy if he wanted to sell that to me at a 'buy it now' price .. and the guy replied .. I know the stands sell for $299.00 ..Please make me an offer .. blah blah blah.

The commercial 7u models in the market are sure to raise the demand for these ..

Sorry .. didn't answer your question about small spcace. Well, I went to circuit city to see the TY-ST42PA20 stand (it's used in the consumer models). The stand looks pretty compact. I measured it with the help of a sales associate .. and the length was around 22" .. the breadth somewhere around 13".. Hopefully that should fit in your place ... Also you can grab a simple swivel base like this one at CC for under 40 bucks so as to maximize your space ..:

Well, even paying around $70 delivered is much better than $165 right ??? :D :D :D

Besides I prefer the aesthetics of the TY-ST42PA20 (TY-ST10M) Stand.
