I just bought a new center speaker B&W HTM61 and am debating if I should mount the speaker over my screen or put in on a stand under the screen. I have matched it with a pair of B&W 863s (floor standing) speakers.

Does it make that much of a difference in sound to get speaker further from the ground?

Option 1: Mount over screen and use some kind of mount to direct speaker toward listening position. This speaker has a rear vent, by mounting close to wall how will that affect sound? Will I have to screw into center channel?

Option 2: Place speaker on stand under screen and position on same level as L/R fronts. My goal would be to get it as high and on line with fronts as possible them direct center toward listening position. Does anyone make an affordable adjustable tall 24 inches center speaker stand that will do this?

I vote for Option 2, especially with that rear port.

+1 you want them (the tweeters) as close to ear level as possible. if you have the option of stand mounting from the ground, thatll be closer to all speakers being at their ideal height

alos, congrats on the purchase! i remember you asking about the 600 series. the 683s are BEASTS, should give you some serious sound

That is what I was thinking as well. Now I just need to find a fall center stand. Recommend any? I had even considered building one except would love to have the ability to adjust top angle of speaker, which might be out of my carpentry skills.

I got a great deal on them, $950 for all three. Only issue is that one of the 683s has a tweeter pushed slightly in... other than that MINT. How would I go about replacing that.... not that I can tell difference in sound from that speaker.

contact B&W directly, or your nearest B&W dealer. you can buy a new tweeter and replace it. even with a price of a new tweeter, you truly did get a heeluva deal!

as far as a stand goes, either check the DIY forums, or visit the site www.racksandstands.com they seem to have quite the selection of well, racks and stands
seem to be reasonable on price as well

Option 1 based on the following. I recently got an OmniMount CCH1B Center Channel Speaker Shelf ( http://www.amazon.com/OmniMount-CCH1...pr_product_top ) for my Polk Audio CSR center. Prior to this, the CSR was sitting on the TV stand just in front of the screen. The CCH1B works great for placing my center speaker on top of my Samsung rear projection (DLP) TV. The OP doesn't say what type of TV he has so there's no way to know if something like this is appropriate. BTW, the CCH1B's maximum weight capacity is advertised at 30 pounds which is a couple of pounds less than the OP's center weighs so even if the TV is rear projection, the OP would need to find a version with more carrying capacity.

I have a front projector, so this would not work. I am sorry, should have made that more clear. Thanks for the suggestion though.
