Has anyone heard of certain DVD's not playing the DTS tracks correctly? Let me explain-the new Josh Groban PBS Concert DVD has a DTS track and a Dolby 5.1 track. On either one, the center channel is dead. The vocals come out of the right front channel. I played a different DVD to verify that it was not my system and it worked fine. So I tried the Josh Groban DVD again in a different player and it did the same thing. I wish I had another receiver to try it on. Is it possible that my Onkyo TS-898 is decoding it incorrectly? Any one else with this DVD?
Well, if its 5.1 then all the channels are being used. I think that you mean that just because its Dolby Digital doesn't automatically mean that its 5.1. Dolby Digital can be anything from 1.0 to 5.1.
Dolby Digital and DTS are just compression encoding formats. They have nothing to do with the sound mix. If the concert was mixed to have no center channel activity for whatever reason (be it a creative decision or a simple error), that's the way it's going to play back.
