Thanks sooo much for this... my knee's are trembling. What an exciting product year we have ahead!

Although, gotta worry about the Philips BD player though, which proudly states on the professionally presented signage: "1080i x 1092 / 60fps"

Perhaps Philips is trying to redefine HiDef to some new 'close to square' aspect ratio? (what a typo.. you'd think they would check their signage a little better). ;)

I'm amazed at how ugly some of those machines are.

I guess they're trying to look all slab-like and heavyweight to signify the step-up in performance, but most of them just look awful. So many lines and angles that I don't know where to look.

Some of them look worse than the chinese dvd players that are sold in supermarkets :)

Anyway I guess I can just chuck it in the cupboard with all the other ugly kit I've got (Sky box, pc, etc).

Some of those units remind me of the old CED video disc machines. I guess some of the manufacturers figured "Think Blue here people. Hey, we should throw a blue light in the machine since it's Blue Ray"

No, it does Dolby True HD in two channels. I think that is supposed to be some sort of lossless format, but I don't recall exactly.

So far the Toshiba unit is the only one touting impressive specs that are complete.

Quad SHARC 32bit FP DSPs

I'd say that Toshiba has the ducks in a line, seems like BD-ROM is heavily supported but a mix bag not knowing clearly definied spes on each player.

Plus notice none of the BD-ROM players show the DTS-HD, DD+, and Dolby TrueHD labels, does this mean they only decode DD and DTS??
