Change channel via Firewire, Record video via Colossus?

960 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Danja
Hello,

My parents have an HTPC setup where a PVR 150 (I think) is recording international channels from a DISH set top box, and a Colossus is recording HD channels from Comcast. The DISH setup works perfectly; the IR blaster changes the channels as it's supposed to and videos are recorded exactly as expected from WMC. As far as I can tell it's impossible to use WMC for both DISH and Comcast simultaneously, so I set up WinTV7 to record from ComCast. However, I currently have no way of changing the ComCast channels via PC. Is there a way to change channel via FireWire (or serial) from WinTV7, and record via Colossus?

We have a Pace RNG110 set top box, but we're not averse to calling Comcast and asking for a different one if necessary.

What makes it impossible to use WMC for both Dish and Comcast? You should be able to setup one tuner for each(quite simple if they're different types of tuner but a bit more work if they're the same).

I'm not sure if there's anything newer/better but I've used firewireSTB in the past for channel changes on STBs.
Thanks for the link! Does that program work on 64 bit Windows? I've heard FireWire has problems with that.

Also, is there any documentation for getting two TV tuners working in MCE? I couldn't find any and when I tried to set up the Colossus, it seemed like it was going to overwrite the PVR150 settings.
Firestb is 32 bit only. Timmoore originally wrote it back in 2005, and the guts of it have not changed since. It's actually impressive that it's still around, actually.

Im using it with 2 HDPVRs and it works great. There should not be any issues setting up 2 different tuners, as far as I know. I used to have a 150 with an HDPVR but that was using DVBLogic. Don't know anything about the Hauppauge native drivers.

Thanks for the reply. Shame about the 32 bit drivers; that eliminates the FireWire option for me. Would WMC work with a serial port?
