Ryan,

When you sat "unknown" channel, are you refering to a channel for which there is no guide data (ie: not listed in the channel setup screen) or simply a channel that is "x'd" out on the setup screen?

I know that I can tune to any channel that is listed in the setup screen (regardless of "X" state), but I don't know about channels that aren't listed there.

I am refering to channels for which there is no program guide data at all; not available in add/remove channels...nowhere.

DirecTV lights up different channels for different reasons as stated above...for instance channel 609 & 610 are used every few weeks for about three hours on Saturday afternoons in the fall for supplemental CBS footbal coverage. These are NOT regular channels and never appear in the Replay channel guide.

I know Replay should not be on the spot to get them in their program guide - if they figure out a way to do it, GREAT, but all I really ask is to let me tune to the channel, even if the Replay doesn't think there is any programming there. I can do my own research to determine when certain programming will be available.

DirecTV also added channels during the Democratic and Republican conventions the provided the live, internal, audio and video feeds of the convention. The feeds that were broadcast up on the big screens at the convention, not the pool feeds given to the network outlets. These were specialized channels that I had to tune the DirecTV receiver to manually; the Replay would not tune to those channels, even though there was programming on them...

Hey, thanks Mike!

This info ought to be added to the FAQ.

Boy, whoever it was that wanted to hook up their security cam will be happy being able to record that. And now I can easily check out the randomly appearing satellite channel.

3.0 allows me to tune the Replay to any channel--ant, cable or sat--that I enter, even if replay is NOT aware of the channel (not in program guide). I have been asking for this for over a year, since DirecTV adds and removes channels for special events or multiple broadcasts.

They often do this for sporting events. For instance, CBS allows DirecTV to give some subscribers extra college football coverage of CBS games not in the subscribers local broadcast (note: this is NOT the ESPN Gameplan, which has its own channels). Also, some regional sports channels often cover more than one event, and DirecTV turns on what they call an RSNa (Regional Sports Network alternate channel) on an unused channel number between 620-655. Previously, the Replay would not let tune to these channels...
